RideLink

A motorcycle intercom on regular AirPods. No internet, no extra headset.

field test · iPhone

Key ideas

No internet

Two iPhones talk directly

The phones connect to each other over Wi-Fi — no cell signal, roaming or towers needed. Both riders tap “Ride” and the roles sort themselves out. No host, no guest.

Dashboard

One lamp says it all

The screen behaves like a motorcycle dash: everything stays quiet except a single lamp. Solid — you’re connected. Dashed — the link dropped and is reconnecting on its own.

Eyes-free

On the road, no need to look at the screen

Short cues in your AirPods tell you what’s happening with the link. One rule: up means on, down means off.

Always on top

The link stays visible over your navigation

The lamp lives on the lock screen and in the Dynamic Island: your maps stay open, and the link status stays in sight.

How it’s made

A quiet interface for a loud road.

Approach

  • An adaptive audio buffer keeps speech flowing when the link weakens.
  • The link comes back on its own, with an audio cue — nothing to press.
  • The dashboard stays dark in both themes, so the lamp is visible in bright sun.
  • Every state — from “ready to connect” to “no microphone access” — is designed on its own, with a clear next step.
